font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">"I love the stark contrast of the urban city and the beauty and sometimes horror that lay in the natural world beyond. My work now presents a contant shift between the two. The new urban projects Aviary and Component present the city as a place of restraint and control. The mass produced tourism of the London Eye wheel appears to be a giant cage extending to capture its prey. The flood lights of the South Bank Centre watch your every movement in a state of constant surveillance. The styling draws the viewer into the object, showing the lights in an appealing shade of muted retro blue. In their natural state, the light and post become just another object to avoid at street level.

In component 2, the advertising post of red flowing material could under closer inspection be an exotic plant rising from it's cold cement floor". The city is a modern hybrid of Cement, brick, wood and material. Hybrids are at the root of my photographic work. I have experimented with mixing plant and animal genes to create a new perception for the viewer.Man made constructions, animals and botanical species can share similarities when combined. This idea is now explored with my work Elephant, Hybrid and Anteater, where tree, plant and animal forms are mimicking each other.

The Seven Deadly Sins: New photography 2009

This month I unveiled a new project onto my website titled " L'horreur du monde exterieur" ( The horror of the outside world ). Please visit my portfolio at www.colinpearcephotography.com

Each image is based on one of the seven deadly sins as seen through my eyes. I have taken work from two previous projects "The Great Outdoors" and never before seen shots from "Pasture". Sometimes work has to be left to settle for a while and like a good wine, takes time to find its right note. I believe the images under their new guise, have produced a really powerful work that I am truely proud off.

Let me know which sin is closer to your heart, by taking part in the poll on the right hand side.

Colin / September 2009

Cockatoo Feathers: New Photography by Colin Pearce 2009

I started collecting different kinds of feathers over the summer, in preparation for new photographs that would become the projects Cockatoo, Breeze and Squaw.

It started with the Pariquite feather, with its beautiful yellow and lime shades. The photographs were all shot against white. I wanted to capture nothing but the wonder of the feathers up close. I played with movement too, and the shadow plays an important part in the shots, giving the photographs their blue tones.

With just one feather, I wanted to convey a whole bird almost out of shot. The fact that you are seeing a fraction of whats taking place fascinated me. I love to create mystery, tension and curiocity.

They have become some of my favorite photographs to date and I am currently shooting more in the series.

Squaw, was different in execution. I wanted to use the feathers in the park that go unnoticed. I went back home and started to arrange them, mixing up the colour range and textures. The idea was to create a section of a Red Indian head dress. However, my structure would be make from throwaway feathers, rather than the most precious and important ones. One feather was broken, i use this to show an inperfection amongst the beauty, a possible conflict has accured.

If you take another look at Squaw #1, you may see that it possibly looks like a claw or tallon of some kind, this was my way of showing agression.

Visit my portfolio at www.colinpearcephotography.com

Colin / August 2009

Colin Pearce: A new Fine Art Photographer

I became a fine art photographer, following a career as a Mouldmaker and Lifecaster at Madame Tussaud's Studio's in London. My photographic work cross-breeds ideas and subjects to create a totally new perception, to make the viewer look and explore in a thought provoking way.In my mind, botanical and animal genes could share similarities when combined? This idea is explored with my new photographic work entitled "Elephant #1 and #2, where both plant and animal forms are mimicking each other.

When I shot the Hybrid project, my brief was clear. I wanted to show another side to beauty. I photographed the flowers by adding a touch of neon, which would be appealing to the viewer's eye. Beneath this surface beauty, I set out to capture an underlining horror. A friend recently commented on my work "It's amazing how you've made something so delicate and soft as an orchid, so strong and aggressive"

For me, this was the greatest experiment.

To view my portfolio and for print sales visit www.colinpearcephotography.com

Colin / August 2009
